Builder Selected For New Badger Mountain Elementary

Kennewick-based Chervenell Construction will build the new Badger Mountain Elementary on the site of the current school in south Richland.

The Richland School Board awarded the bid for the project to Chervenell during its meeting on Feb. 23. Students and staff will move temporarily to the school near the intersection of Belmont Boulevard and Keene Road in early April while the new school is built. Construction is scheduled to begin after the old school is demolished.

The project will cost $19.5 million, which is below initial budget estimates. The new school is one of the projects paid for by the bond approved by voters in February 2017. It was designed by Design West Architects of Kennewick.

The new building will be a prototypical design similar to that of the new Tapteal Elementary. It will be 65,500 square feet with more than 30 classrooms, multipurpose space, a library, art and music rooms, gym and new playground.

The project is scheduled to be completed by August 2022.
