Elementary Students Qualify For Destination Imagination Global Finals

COVID-19 led to a very unique year of Destination Imagination competition and RSD teams still did an impressive job demonstrating their creativity and problem-solving.

The district had 16 teams compete at the virtual Regional Tournament and 10 teams move on to the virtual state tournament. Seven of those teams qualified for Global Finals after finishing in the top three of their challenge. Students and coaches from five of the seven teams that qualified for Global Finals recently attended a Richland School Board meeting to talk about their challenges and celebrate their season.

Destination Imagination, or DI, is a program that emphasizes critical thinking and creativity. Student teams choose from one of 7 different challenges—from the arts to technical challenges—they want to compete in and spend months creating a solution to the challenge. They also complete instant challenges in the competition, where they have to think on their feet.
